Working primarily in painting, Kristin Beinner James recently began experimenting with ceramics and video. Using her iPhone and various domestic and studio ephemera, she creates lush abstract images that suggest the alternately frenetic and cluttered, nuanced and balanced thought process of a studio practice. Her use of strips of film covered in paint or printed as a photogram hint at the constant evolution of image-making mediums.
